WORST WIJNCAFE TAPAS, BAR €

MAP GOOGLE MAP ( 625 61 67; http://deworst.nl; Barentszstraat 171; tapas €8-15, brunch mains €10; 4pm-midnight Tue-Sat, 10am-10pm Sun; 48 Barentszplein) Named for its sausage-skewed tapas dishes (veal tongue white sausage, chorizo, lobster sausage with spinach and asparagus), this chequerboard-tiled wine bar is the more casual sibling of esteemed restaurant Marius (Click here) next door. Other dishes include pigs’ trotters. There’s a fantastic range of mostly French wines by the glass. Sunday brunch is a local event.

MAP GOOGLE MAP ( 688 06 32; www.debakkerswinkel.nl; Polonceaukade 1, Westergasfabriek; dishes €5-10; 9am-5pm Mon-Fri, 10am-6pm Sat & Sun; 10 Van Limburg Stirumstraat) The wonderful ‘Bakery’ has seven branches throughout the city and country, but this one is uniquely situated by the drawbridge in the old regulator’s house at the former gasworks, with mezzanine seating, comfy sofas and a great terrace. Quiches, fish terrines, soups and sourdough sandwiches are all good choices, and the carrot cake is unmissable.
